Some & any

A. Some:

Meaning:

Unknown amount or number of something.

Form: 

  •         some + countable or uncountable nouns
  •         some + singular or plural
  •         some is usually used with the positive form.
  •         some can also be used with the interrogative form in case of offers & requests.

Examples: 

   – I am busy this weekend because we are going to receive some guests.

     – I need some feedback to improve my work.

     – Some student broke the window.

B. Any:

Meaning:

Some or even the smallest amount or number of something.

Form: 

  •         any + countable or uncountable nouns
  •         any + singular or plural
  •         any is usually used with the negative and interrogative forms.

Examples: 

  – He didn’t show any interest in our discussion.

– Do you have any problem?

Note: 

“any” can be used when the meaning of the sentence implies “it doesn’t matter”.

Example:   – You can call me at any moment you wish!
