Say no politely to an offer.
They invited me for lunch, but I refused / declined their invitation.
- Both verbs can be used but depending on the purpose set by the user.
- Refuse sounds “firm” and emotionless and doesn’t let some room for more negotiation.
- Decline sounds formal and more polite and sometimes tactful.
